Patterns and Personality Disorders

Most of the personality disorders represent the extreme case of one of the problematic patterns. In some cases, the personality disorder involves a combination of two or three patterns, in the extreme. The following table shows which patterns correspond to each personality disorder.

Personality Disorder Pattern
Paranoid Suspicious, prideful, victim
Schizoid Isolated
Schizotypal Isolated
Antisocial Deceptive
Borderline Needy, victim, aggressive
Histrionic Charming
Narcissistic Prideful, entitled, defensive
Avoidant Insecure
Dependent Needy, compliant
Obsessive-compulsive none
Passive-aggressive Passive-aggressive, defiant
Depressive Self-judging

The obsessive-compulsive personality disorder doesn’t correspond to an interpersonal pattern because it is not particularly interpersonal in nature.
